On the ice

Posted by
ursulakatariina (Turku, Finland) on 20 January 2013 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

I still can't really believe I did it, but yesterday The Artist and I walked over the lake Lilla Le. This picture I snapped standing on the ice just after I had made the snow angel.
I was so afraid we were going to fall into the icy water through the ice I had to remind me to breathe all the time...
The weather was great, sun was bright and the air was pure, the temperature was -15°C.

So did I understand correctly that you most certainly did you do it yourself?

@Oiva: Yes, you understood correctly.

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

This is the first time that I have come across the concept of a snow angle! How lovely! I assume that there is some sort of sign that says whether walking on the lake is safe! As you know, in the UK, there would be 100's of them all done by health and safety

20 Jan 2013 10:42am

@CElliottUK: Well, I guess it's very hard to see snow angels in places where there is no snow enough to cover the ground... :)
Actually, there are no signs about the ice at all - we saw other people ice skating and walking on the ice so we thought it would be safe and as we are still alive it seems it was safe. It is amazing how people here survive in everyday situations without all those signs Britain and Ireland seem to love so much. :D

Ari from Turku, Finland

Sullakin on jääkuva, mutta lunta jään päällä, kävitkö enkelöimässä :)

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Looks fab, what other things can you make on the ice?
Well done for getting over a fear and going out there, great shot.

20 Jan 2013 5:28pm

@The Mouse: Best thing to do on the ice is to be afraid... :) But if one forgets how scary it is to be on the ice then only the imagination sets the limits for what can be done on the ice. :)
Thank you!

Richard from Ellemford, United Kingdom
